New Head of International Affairs Division

Bern, 15.4.2024 – From 1 August 2024, Barbara Schedler Fischer is to lead the International Affairs Division of the FOPH. Aged 48, she is a diplomat with extensive experience in bilateral and multilateral relations and is well acquainted with the Swiss political scene.

After studying English, History and Journalism at the Universities of Zurich und Aberdeen, Barbara Schedler Fischer joined the diplomatic service of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in 2004. She is currently serving as Deputy Head of Mission at the Swiss Embassy in Vienna, primarily responsible for economic relations and for European policy matters such as health, energy and transport.

In the course of her FDFA career, Barbara Schedler Fischer has, for example, represented Switzerland’s interests in Canada, focusing on economic and science policy, and has also served first as Chief of Staff and then as Deputy Head of the Peace & Human Rights Division in Bern. She has now been appointed as Head of the International Affairs Division of the FOPH, with effect from 1 August 2024.

The FOPH looks forward to working with her and welcomes her to the team. As Vice Director, she will also be a member of the senior management of the FOPH.
Raised in Graubünden and Winterthur, Barbara Schedler Fischer is married, with two school-age children.
